PNF Stretching

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, which is more commonly known as PNF, is a method of stretching that is designed to increase flexibility and range of motion. PNF stretching allows you to stretch further than in previous stretches by creating more length in a muscle to give you greater flexibility.

With PNF stretching you begin by stretching a muscle and then forcefully contracting that muscle before stretching it again. As you move into the next stretch after the contraction, you will be able to extend that muscle even further than before. Initially developed in the 1940s to treat certain neuromuscular conditions, PNF is now widely recognized by healthcare and fitness professionals as one of the most effective methods of stretching for increasing range of motion.
